Somthing2know Personality Hero Of The Week- Frank Nneji, Whose Disappointment Pushed Him To Establish ABC Transport Company

“Thought is the original source of all wealth, all success, all material gain, all great discoveries and inventions, and all of achievement”- Claude M. Britol. The thought and the idea of ABC Transport Company was borne by Frank Nneji, owing to the disappointment he had one day in a bus while travelling to Lagos to supply educational materials. The bus   broke down at Ore in present day Ondo State – South-West Nigeria- and there was no alternative plan to continue on the journey to Lagos. There and then, the thought and the idea of ABC Transport came to Frank after due consultations with his wife and junior brother Jude Nneji.

“There is nothing on earth that you cannot have –once you have mentally accepted the fact you can have it”-Robert Collier. Frank has had a mental picture of how to revolutionize road transport business in Nigeria. Out of   his courage and faith, Mr. Frank Uzoawuotu Nneji (OON) started Associated Bus Company (ABC) on February 13th, 1993 at Mbaise Road with 6 buses.

Courageous people are those who have a dream and set a goal, make a plan and take the first step, with no guarantee that their efforts will result in success.”- Brian Tracy. Twenty-six (26) years after ABC Transport Company was established in the city of Owerri, the company now has 36 branches, with 3 subsidiaries, 500 vehicles and 22,000 shareholders with offices in almost all the states of Nigeria and has covered the West African Region. The company has gone public and listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The company isgrowing and getting stronger by the day.

“Make every thought, every fact that comes into your mind pay you a profit. Make it work and produce for you. Think of things not as they are but as they might be. Don’t merely dream-but create!”- Maxwell Maltz. The company is looking at the rail transport service as long as the concession agreements are good and privatization terms are clear with attempts to set up vehicle assembling plant here in Nigeria if government policies are made favourable. Rapido and its group of companies’ owned by Frank Nneji are not looking at the challenges of doing business in the eastern part of the country but his ideas has created thousands of jobs for Nigerians. It has staff strength of over 2,500 with core staff at 1,700 spread across Rapido Foods, Rapido Audiovisuals, Training school, ABC Cargo, ABC Transit Support Service and an assembling plant, across the country. All these have in a way reduced unemployment in the country, particularly in Imo State.

All improvement in your life begins with an improvement in your mental pictures. The development of a positive self image is a vital part of changing your thinking and changing your life”- Brian Tracy. In the last 25 years, Associated Bus Company (ABC) has brought sanity to road transportation business by phasing out hanging and attachment seats in public and interstate buses and unruly behaviors among conductors particularly in Imo State.  ABC Transport Company is the first to introduce speed limits within Owerri, its headquarters an action that earned Frank Nneji the President of Owerri Chamber of Commerce and the recognition of AKU RUO ULO honourary award by Ala Igbo Development Foundation (ADF).

“Dream of loft dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. You vision is the promise of you shall at last unveil-John Ruskin”. The dreams of revolutionizing the transport sector in Nigeria by Frank many years ago, is now a reality. ABC Transport is the highest contributor to the internally generated revenue of Imo State. ABC Transport has brought innovations into transport business, which has become the hallmark of road transportation in Imo State, Nigeria, and in West Africa today.  ABC is the first to introduce online booking in road transportation business in Nigeria, and the first transport company to be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. ABC has made a mark in road transportation in Nigeria, and indeed in Africa despite all odds and challenge.

He is the author of a book “Who Says You Can’t?” Mr Frank Uzoawuotu Nneji (OON) is a case study for the younger generation to have confidence and believe in themselves and resolve to be their own boss particularly in this era of unemployment
