“Adversity is always the partner of progress. Anytime we want to move forward, obstacles, difficulties, problems and predicament are going to get in the way”- John C. Maxwell. This quote clearly describes the situation of Emily Udoisang Etteobong’s early childhood. Having lost the dad at a tender age, her mom struggled to raise them (all 6 girls) without any help from uncles because they were girls. Resolve in advance that you will never quit once you have started forward your goal. No matter how many setbacks or obstacles you experience, make the decision that you will keep on picking yourself up and persisting until you eventually succeed.”-Brian Tracy. This was exactly what her late mother did to see them through the difficult situation of life then. She was a very strong woman, loving and caring.
“Stress is inevitable. Problems are never ending. Failures and disappointment happen to everyone, all the time. They only thing over which you have any control is how you respond to these stressful events”- Brian Tracy. Emily did not give up to her life threatening challenges in the family-but rather she showed courage and overcame them against all odds and challenge. She used herself and her story to tell people that the odds &challenge of life is not the end of the person’s life, and that with hard work, focus, self confidence & determination, one can still be a success not minding his or her poor background.
“Nobody is free from problems. A problem-free life is an illusion-a mirage in the desert. It is a dangerously deceptive perception, which can mislead, blind and distract.”- Robert Schuller. The day was Thursday, March 24, 2016. The husband took ill. And on Tuesday, March 29, of that same year, he died, putting Emily Etteobong into widowhood with her three beautiful children. Against all odds and challenge, she smiles and moved on. Now, call her the lady always with the beautiful smiles, you’ll certainly not be wrong!
Her words: “Today I look at all the scars and I smile. I smile because God blesses me with the zeal to forge on, not looking at all the obstacles and setbacks. I smile when I look at my brief (19years) of a memorable but interesting marriage to the man who was my backbone. The man who showed me the other way to life. “The man who loved me until his dying moments; my ‘Osomistic Osomito’ the Economist.”I smile when I see all that I’ve achieved through his support and love. I smile when I look at the lovely and wonderful angels God has given me. I smile because God has not allowed my circumstances to describe me even after death took him away from me and my angels. I’m alive and still smiling because of the wonderful people God has blessed me with- family, friends and colleagues. I smile because God has not yet started with me. .
“When you get knocked down, good friends don’t kick you while you’re down or say, “I told you so.” They pick you and help you keep going.”-John C. Maxwell. “The greatest you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own.”-British Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli.”According to John C. Maxwell, “This is really the essence of positive relationship that influences people to rise up and reach their potentials. They see the best in you and encourage you to strive for it. “A true friend knows your weaknesses but shows you your strengths, feels your fears but fortifies your faith; sees your anxieties but frees your spirit; recognizes your disabilities but emphasizes your possibilities.”-Author William Allen Ward.
